ANNUAL WALKATHON
2006
Our annual 10km walkathon was held on Saturday
25 February 2006. This was a fundraising event which was very
successful. The weather was great and the spirits of the congregation
especially the youth was very high.
All cards and monies were handed in at the
church before starting. This function was handled by Sisters
Daphne and Elaine without delay. After Pastor Oscar
committed us to the Lord in prayer the walkathon kicked off
from the church in Old Nooiensfontein Road towards Stellenbosch
Arterial Road until the robot at Voortrekker/Strand Road from
whence we headed back towards the church.
All ages participated in this walk and it
was extremely encouraging to see mothers eg Sisters Karen,
Valerie and others, pushing their babies in their prams throughout
the walk without fail whilst other toddlers walked with their
Moms and Dads whoe sometimes helped them along by carrying
them when they could not anymore. It was a very exciting day
to see this sacrifice by everyone.
Excellent patrolling was done by Bros. Mervan
and Terence who also refreshed the congregation with water
at regular points throughout the walk. Bro Barnes drew lots
of attention when he started the walk off whilst everyone
had finished but was full of zeal to do the walkathon on his
own with great determination in his shorts and Yepaw t-shirt.
He finished without fail and was highly applauded by the rest
of the congregation on his return who by then were sitting
on the grass enjoying fellowship with each other whilst hot
dogs and juice were being served.
The winner of the walkathon was one
of the youth members.

MEN'S CAMP
AT GOUDINI SPA
After months of waiting the weekend finally arrived for the
long awaited camp. We left Cape Town at about 18H00 and met
up with our fellow brothers of
Strandfontein AFM church at Goudini. We got
to know the guys and immediately started chatting with one
another because we had one common friend and that is Jesus.
The weekend was started off with some singing around the camp
fire while some were busy preparing the evening supper. After
that the men decided to take a dip in the warm swimming pool
which Goudini Spa are popular for. The men went to bed tiring
but excited for the morning to come.

Arise and shine the following morning we
started the devotion in our cabins and some nice breakfast
after words. Our guest speaker for the weekend Basil Leonard
arrived and was in the process of setting up the facilities.
We started our first session with Basil and learned from this
dynamic man of God. The men interacted well in these sessions
and laughed for some of the stuff coming out.
We break for lunch and challenged the Strandfontein men for
a game of soccer, the Victory men won but what can you expect
the name says it all “Victory”. After lunch we
went back for our last session for the day where the men learned
some valuable lessons on how we us men need to build character
because the church, wife and kids are looking up to us.
